Old Dogs and New Homes...
Ernestine Strini, Hopeful Homer
Although all my four-legged children are
rescue cases and vary in ages from 18 months to over 11 years,
all the time since I am taking in rescue dogs (a good 20 years
now), my passion for rescuing old animals grew more and more.

I cannot stand by seeing an old
dog being put down just for being old or been thrown
away into shelters just because they become a burden
due to ailments and sickness. Cuba, my precious Big
Old Oaf, a Great Dane x Ridgeback, came into our
life over 2 years ago, at about 9 years of age. The
owners wanted to put him down because they were
moving and he was old anyway, so no need to drag him
with!He thankfully was rescued by the owners niece,
but she could not put him up herself, so he ended up
in a shelter far away from home and her love. As
fate prevailed, I was putting out word that after
losing my faithful old companion Taurus, I was
looking for another old chap.

I was put in touch with Dana, who saved Cuba
from an untimely death. Needless to say, not only did I get my
big old oaf, Dana and I became best friends.
I know that until my own dying day, I will rescue old animals.
It means the world to me if I can give them shelter, the much
needed medical care and lots of love, even if it is just for the
last days of their life. People can call me crazy and "wasting"
my time and money on old dogs, which will die soon anyway.
Hey there guys, there is only one thing I
have to say: My own happiness depends on their happiness!
Nothing has ever been so rewarding in my life!
